Sistem peraturan dalam olahraga tinju sudah ada sejak kemunculan olahraga ini. Di dalam sejarahnya, olahraga tinju pada masa Yunani Kuno memiliki aturan main berdasarkan referensi dan gambar-gambar yang ditemukan oleh para sejarawan. Akan tetapi, karena sumber yang didapatkan sedikit, maka peraturan permainan tinju ini hanya dapat diduga-duga saja, yaitu sebagai berikut.
( 1 ) .Pemain tidak boleh bergulat atau merangkul.
( 2 ) .Boleh memukul dengan tangan, tapi tidak boleh menggunakan jari untuk mencungkil.
( 3 ) .Tidak menggunakan ring tinju. Tidak ada batas waktu (ronde).
( 4 ) .Pemain dinyatakan menang apabila salah satu petinju menyatakan menyerah atau tidak mampu melanjutkan permainan.
( 5 ) .Tidak ada kelas dalam permainan karena dipilih secara acak.
( 6 ) Apabila pertandingan berjalan terlalu lama, petinju boleh saling memukul tanpa bertahan sampai ada yang menyerah.
Itu peraturan pertandingan tinju pada zaman Yunani Kuno. Peraturan- peraturan tersebut kemudian dijadikan dasar dalam peraturan olahraga tinju sekarang ini.
Adapun peraturan olahraga tinju sekarang ini adalah sebagai berikut.
( 1 ) .Tidak boleh memukul kepala pada bagian belakang.
( 2 ) .Tidak boleh memukul daerah vital atau alat kelamin lawan.
( 3 ) .Tidak boleh mengeluarkan kata-kata caci maki atau mengolok-olok lawan.
( 4 ) .Tidak boleh memukul lawan apabila lawan sudah tidak berdaya atau menyerah.
Dalam sebuah pertandingan tinju ada istilah knock down, yaitu suatu keadaan petinju yang terjatuh karena pukulan lawan. Petinju yang terjatuh tersebut diberikan waktu oleh wasit sampai hitungan 10 untuk bangkit kembali dan meneruskan pertandingan. Apabila petinju tersebut tidak dapat bangkit kembali, maka dinyatakan kalah dan disebut juga dengan istilah K.O.
Apabila petinju membuat lawannya K.O, maka petinju tersebut harus menghentikan pukulannya ketika lawan terjatuh dan menuju sudut putih yang ditunjukkan oleh wasit untuk berdiri sampai lawan bangkit kembali dan siap melanjutkan pertandingan.
Peraturan tersebut harus dilaksanakan oleh para petinju. Wasit mempunyai hak untuk memberikan peringatan kepada petinju yang melanggar peraturan tersebut. Bahkan, wasit berhak mendiskualifikasi pemain yang melanggar aturan.

The regulatory system in boxing has existed since the advent of this sport. In its history, boxing in Ancient Greece had rules based on references and drawings discovered by historians. However, because there are few resources available, the rules of this boxing game can only be guessed, namely as follows.
(1). Players may not wrestle or embrace.
(2). Can hit with the hand, but may not use fingers to gouge.
(3). Don't use a boxing ring. There is no time limit (round).
(4). The player is declared victorious if one of the boxers declares surrender or is unable to continue the game.
(5). There are no classes in the game because they are chosen randomly.
(6) If the match goes on too long, boxers may hit each other without holding on until someone gives up.
It was the rules of boxing competition in Ancient Greece. These rules then became the basis in the current boxing sport rules.
Now the rules of boxing are as follows.
(1). Should not hit the head on the back.
(2). Cannot hit the vital area or genitals of the opponent.
(3). Must not issue verbal abuse or make fun of your opponent.
(4). Cannot hit the opponent if the opponent is powerless or surrenders.
In a boxing match there is the term knock down, which is a state of boxer who fell because of an opponent's punch. The fallen boxer is given time by the referee until the count of 10 to get back up and continue the match. If the boxer cannot get back up, he is declared defeated and is also referred to as the K.O.
If the boxer makes his opponent K.O, then the boxer must stop his punch when the opponent falls and goes to the white corner shown by the referee to stand until the opponent gets back up and is ready to continue the match.
The regulation must be implemented by the boxers. The referee has the right to give a warning to boxers who violate these regulations. In fact, the referee has the right to disqualify players who break the rules.
