(Indonesia)

( English )

Shorei Ryu is a term that refers to the Okinawa style Naha - Te karate. Shorei Ryu means "style of inspiration". It is believed that the term Shorei originates from Shoreiji Temple in southern China. The teachings of this temple provide the basis for the style of Naha - Te.

The Shorei Ryu system was influenced in the initial development by Shuri-Te. Kanryo

Higashionna initially studied Shuri-Te with Sokon Matsumura but he then traveled to China and studied kempo there. Shorei Ryu has two main styles. One style is called Goju

Ryu and was founded by Chojun Miyagi (1888-1953) and the other is called Uechi Ryu, founded by Kanbun Uechi (1877-1948).

The Shorei-ryu system is a fusion of Chinese mo-kempo and Pakua art and ancient

Okinawa art Naha-te. This is a style that is famous for low stance, strong moves and circular movements. The style itself is based on the Five Forces and Five Blows, which are clearly comparable to the Five Animals of kung fu. This is :

Power

Blow

Body

Dragon

Bone

Tiger

Breathing

Snake

Internal external

Leopard

Quiet

Heron

Shorei-ryu is associated with the karate courage class and especially its internal power system. There is an old adage that says, "To be strong and eternal, he must have a good foundation." The Shorei-ryu system has the greatest emphasis on its

establishment: the attitude of a horse. The duration of the practice was devoted to standing in the horse position and lunge position in the dojo. The stance of the horse must be low to the ground and karateka Shorei must become accustomed to the low center of gravity. It is always much more difficult to knock someone down to the ground. Furthermore, a low attitude is usually stronger than a higher one. For proper progress to be made in Shorei style, the foundation must be made stronger and more solid.

The Shorei style stylist will practice many times from a low attitude. This will strengthen both its internal and external power. Because when someone works on internal power (chi kara) external currents are freer and more natural. Some of the exercises performed from the stance of a low horse are: karate five counts, six counts, Okinawa blows to the groin and neck.
